Horse Care

Proper Horse Care: When you own a horse or several horses, or even if you are caring for a horse, it is imperative that you exhibit proper care for the horse. Horses are high-maintenance animals and require a good amount of care to ensure their health, vitality and longevity.

Grooming: The grooming part of horse care is the most drawn-out, but very necessary nonetheless. Proper grooming care for horses includes using many different brushes, combs and other items to keep the horse’s mane looking beautiful. You will need several different items in order to properly groom a horse and they include; currycomb, dandy brush, body brush, grooming rag or towel, mane brush and hoof pick, and a sweat scraper.

Housing & Food: One of the main aspects of proper horse care is making sure that horses live in an environment that is both suitable for them and has enough room for them to move around. Horses need to be away from the elements on a consistent basis that is why they are usually kept in barns or stables. They can also live on pastures, or inside of fences or pens. Horses need water, just like any other living thing would, and the water needs to be fresh for the most part. Horses need to run around and have hay or grass close by they eat the hay and grass as well as grain and pelleted feed. They need to be fed everyday and it is best if they are fed many times throughout the day, instead of being fed once a day.

Sicknesses: Horses have the tendency to be prone to certain types of sicknesses and they include; colic, laminitis, and internal parasites. It is best to keep an eye on the horse’s health at all times and consult a veterinarian if necessary. Colic can come about through the horse’s feeding by being fed spoiled feed, being fed too much or if there are too many changes in how a horse is fed.
